Canary Media – an independent, nonprofit newsroom covering the transition to clean energy and solutions to the climate crisis – featured Sunwealth Chief Development Officer, Jess Brooks, in the latest edition of their Charging Up series. The series aims to highlight gender diversity in climate tech, telling the stories of women’s careers and shining a light on diversity issues.

Brooks spoke with Canary about her career path, best pieces of advice she’s received, and overlooked career opportunities in climate tech. When asked about her superpower, Brooks says:

“As a mom of two boys, I’m used to balancing competing priorities — school, work, home, extracurriculars — and optimizing for the overall health of our family. As investors, we need to do the same thing: think holistically about the outcomes we want to achieve and the pathways that will get us there. The real solutions aren’t going to come from compartmentalizing. They’ll come when we embrace the complexity of the challenges we face — climate change, inequality, structural racism — and tackle them together.”
